Tom Coughlin often gives the Giants players Monday off after a Sunday victory. But the Giants’ head coach brought the players in for work today. He wanted to study the recent past with the expectation that it will help the Giants enjoy a successful future.

The Giants defeated the Dallas Cowboys yesterday, 35-14, to improve to 7-1 overall, 5-0 at home and 2-0 in the NFC East. As satisfying as the victory was, Coughlin saw much he didn’t like. Like three turnovers (two fumbles and an interception). And a passing attack that accounted for only 119 yards, despite three touchdown throws by Eli Manning.
Just as important, Coughlin wants the Giants to stay focused on what lies ahead. Their gaudy first-half record guarantees them nothing in the highly competitive races for the division title and conference postseason berths. The Giants will next play in what promises to be an ultra-hostile environment Sunday night in Philadelphia against the 5-3 Eagles. That kicks off a second half in which the Giants will get no breathers. Indeed, with the Minnesota Vikings’ victory yesterday, each of the Giants’ eight remaining games is against a team that is currently .500 or better.
Given all that, Coughlin thought it best to bring the players in for work today.
“I felt like we needed to get back in to get our lift and our run in, see the medical people, and get with the coaches and look at the tape,” Coughlin said. “I felt that it was important for us to do that, so we could get everything pointed out. As mentioned, you are in a very, very serious, very tough, difficult stretch and I want to make sure that everybody is on the same page and there are no illusions that certain things are being done well................READ
